However <strong>thoughts are one thing<\/strong> and <strong>the mind is another<\/strong>. Nowadays, neuroscience has proven a link between emotions, thoughts and the brain.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Certain areas of the brain have been shown to \u201clight up\u201d every time the individual fixes his attention on something specific, or feels a particular emotion.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The brain is fundamental for the creation of thoughts, however, thoughts are not a material thing. Obviously, thoughts are of a <strong>psychic nature<\/strong> and are displayed in a space we call \u201cmind\u201d.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThe universe is Brahama\u2019s mind\u201d The Vedas Book.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The Transmitting Mind and The Receptive Mind<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Mind has two functions:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The Transmitting Mind:<\/strong> This forms mental creations such as; thoughts, structures, projections.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This mental function is useful for things like solving puzzles or playing chess.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is often said that we should <strong>\u2018think before we act\u2019<\/strong>.\u00a0 However, contrary to popular belief, thinking in itself <strong>is not so useful in our daily life<\/strong>, since conscious decisions tend to be a result <strong>not of a chain of thoughts, but of a process of \u2018reflection\u2019<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Reflection is an attribute of the \u2018Receptive Mind\u2019 that is not directly related with thoughts but with our <strong>consciousness<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The Receptive Mind:<\/strong> This receives information, elements and states from our own inner world as an interpretation (or reflection) of the outside world.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The Receptive Mind is the mind of the Sages.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How can we understand this?<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Let\u2019s imagine a view of a lake, with trees growing around it and the sun shining. If it\u2019s windy, the water in the lake moves in a choppy way, the colours and shapes <strong>are distorted and we can barely make out what things are being reflected in the lake<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If the wind drops, the water on the lake stops moving and the <strong>reflection<\/strong> it produces is an <strong>exact copy of the actual view<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The mind works in the same way<\/strong>. If there is a constant flow of thoughts, subconscious aspects, different emotions and projections, then <strong>the reflection that we receive of reality is distorted<\/strong> by this movement.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In most people, the mind is simultaneously generating an endless stream of movement in the different levels of our conscious and subconscious. It\u2019s enough to walk for five minutes while observing our mind, to verify that <strong>we produce thoughts and associations every moment<\/strong>, and what we can observe are only those that belong to the conscious part of our mind.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The aspects that are deeper down in our unconscious mind are imperceptible to most people.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This stream of activity generates a <strong>huge \u2018noise\u2019 in our mind<\/strong>, preventing the correct use of our \u2018<strong>conscious awareness<\/strong>\u2019.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>This explains why everybody sees what they want to see<\/strong>, and why we all have a <strong>different point of view<\/strong> on the same object being observed. It also proves that <strong>\u2018reality\u2019 is something that is unknown<\/strong>, and this has been demonstrated with the modern advances in neuroscience.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When the constant flow of thoughts and associations is reduced, taking the mind to a <strong>Reflective-Receptive mode<\/strong>, the reflection of reality we will obtain will have a direct relation with reality itself.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>What does Gnostic Culture recommend?<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A great teacher of mankind said: <strong>\u201cthe best way of thinking is not to think \u201c<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Gnostic Culture teaches how to free ourselves from the great hubbub of \u201cnoise\u201d in our minds: the thoughts, associations and projections that set us apart from reality.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Through the practice of meditation (1\/2 or 1 hour daily) the mind is educated to remain receptive, in peace, with absolute control of the awareness and <strong>in possession of the \u2018reflective faculty\u2019<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Once a \u2018conscious awareness\u2019 and a \u2018reflective state\u2019 is achieved, <strong>we will be able to observe the course of our life with a lot more clarity<\/strong>. <strong>We will be able to understand ourselves, other people, the world and the purpose of our existence.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Whoever\u2019s mind works in his favour, will become \u2018enlightened\u2019 since he has the ability to see reality.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dear reader, we invite you to meditate for an hour a day. At first you may think that there\u2019s no change. But don\u2019t be discouraged, within a few months you will begin to <strong>find your inner light<\/strong>.
